Presbytery Meeting

 

The Presbytery of Redstone met on March 29, 2008, at the Derry Presbyterian Church, and…

 

Worshiped under the leadership of Larry Armstrong, who preached, along with Reverends Douglas Holben and Helen Kester, and Commissioned Lay Pastor Glenn Hart. The worship included the celebration of the Communion.

 

Watched a DVD titled “Together in Ministry and Mission” describing missions, ministries and issues of significance within the PC(USA).

 

Voted to dismiss the Somerset, St. Paul’s Presbyterian Church to the Presbytery of the East of the Evangelical Presbyterian Church. The process of dismissal will be finalized once the 45-day period during which appeals to that action can be made has expired.

 

Approved the Commissioned Lay Pastor Agreement between Dunbar, Laurel Hill Presbyterian Church and Bonnie Hartley.

 

Granted permission to labor outside the bounds of the Presbytery to the Reverends Cliff Buell and Aleda Menchyk.

 

Acted to approve the requests of the Reverends Gary Close and Kent Lighthall for honorable retirement effective May 31, 2008.

 

Granted a request for waivers from rotation for the election of Elders for West Newton, Sewickley Presbyterian Church.

 

Received the Annual Church Statistical report and enrolled Commissioned Lay Pastors, Presbytery Staff, and members of Council as members of the Presbytery with voice and vote.

 

Elected Gary Close to serve as the Stated Clerk of the Presbytery filling the unexpired term (2009) of Robert Smith.

 

Heard the annual report of Presbyterian Women presented by Linda Blick, the report of the Synod Commissioners presented by Reverend Neal Galley, and a special presentation by Greg Davis, Executive Director of Camp Pine Springs.

 

Elected Elder Jean Livingston, from Johnstown, Westmont Presbyterian Church, to the Presbytery Nominating Committee, Class of 2010.

 

Examined and approved for ordination Steven Morganti.

 

Approved the enrollment of Cynthia DeAngelo as an inquirer; and the enrollment of Ronald Durika as an inquirer with a waiver of the educational requirements of G-14.0471.

 

Approved calls from the Colver and Revloc Presbyterian Churches to the Reverend Charles Blasdell and from the Brownsville, Ft. Burd Presbyterian Church to Candidate Steven Morganti.

 

Examined and Received the Reverend Charles Blasdell.

 

Dissolved the pastoral relationship between Scottdale, Calvin Presbyterian Church and the Reverend James Hepler and the pastoral relationship between the Connellsville Presbyterian Church and the Reverend Mark Juengel. Presbyters shared their best wishes with both Jim and Mark expressing gratitude for their valuable contributions to the life of the Presbytery of Redstone.

 

Acted to spread upon the minutes of Presbytery the recent decisions rendered by the General Assembly Permanent Judicial Commission relating to the application of scruples as presented in recommendation 5 of the report of the Task Force on the Peace Unity and Purity of the Church.

 

Granted the Delmont Presbyterian Church permission to give an easement to the utility company for placement of a light pole on church property.

 

Reminded presbyters of the opportunity to sign up for the Pilgrimage Adventure to the Holy Land.

 

Listened to the annual report of the Executive Presbyter, the Reverend Dr. Douglas Holben, and the reports of the Associate for Pastoral Care, Reverend Carole Isley Corey; the Christian Education Coordinator, Cheryl Croushore; the Congregational Support Coordinator, Susan Blank; and the Mission Coordinator, Reverend Dr. Robert Downs.

 

Enjoyed the gracious hospitality of the New Derry Presbyterian Church and the wonderful noon meal.

 

 

UPCOMING REQUIRED ETHICS TRAINING

          The Presbytery of Redstone adopted a policy requiring attendance at an ethical training workshop for any person in Redstone Presbytery who serves in a church and/or who preaches in churches within Redstone Presbytery.  This policy applies to Authorized Lay Preachers, Commissioned Lay Pastors, Inquirers and/or Candidates under the care of the Presbytery of Redstone, Stated Supplies, Temporary Supply Pastors, Interim Pastors, Associate Pastors, Installed Pastors, Retired Pastors, and, includes any and all those who would be able to preach or lead in worship in the Churches in our Presbytery and/or have direct contact with members or constituents of a Church in our Presbytery.
           
           As you may know from our website calendar, the next ethical training workshop is scheduled for May 17, 2008, from 9:00a.m. – 12:00 p.m. at the First Presbyterian Church, 300 South Main Street, Greensburg, PA.  This workshop has been scheduled for a Saturday so that those who may be employed in secular jobs during the week would be able to attend.  You must attend this workshop and sign the agreement to abide by the terms of the Ethical Conduct Policy in the Presbytery of Redstone.
